Understand a card before you use it

A card number starts with a Bank Identification Number, or BIN. The term IIN, short for Issuer Identification Number, refers to the same identifying prefix. Looking up this prefix helps explain the type of card range you are using without revealing the rest of the card number.

The ZexoCard BIN checker brings the available network, bank, country and card-type details into one view. It works with six-digit and eight-digit searches, including prefixes from virtual and crypto-funded prepaid cards.

How to check a card BIN

  1. Sign in or create your account.
  2. Open the BIN checker.
  3. Enter the first six or eight digits of your card number, with no spaces.
  4. Select Check BIN and read the match details and retrieval date.

Use only a card you are authorized to check. The tool does not need a full card number, CVV, expiry date, account PIN or verification code.

What the lookup results mean

  • Network: the payment network associated with the card range, such as Visa or Mastercard.
  • Issuer: the institution listed for that range. This may differ from the brand shown in your card app.
  • Country: the issuing country in the record, rather than the cardholder's residence or current location.
  • Card type: the available funding classification, such as credit or debit.
  • Category: a card product level or classification, when supplied in the record.

A missing field means that detail is unavailable. It should not be read as proof that the card is invalid.

Six-digit vs eight-digit BIN lookup

Several card ranges can share a six-digit prefix. An eight-digit search can narrow the match and help avoid confusing different issuers or products within that wider range. If the checker returns only a six-digit match, treat it as broader information rather than an exact eight-digit identification.

BIN checks for virtual and crypto prepaid cards

Funding a card with cryptocurrency does not turn its BIN into a blockchain address. The BIN describes the payment-card range; your deposit token and network describe how you add funds. For a crypto-funded card, check the BIN to understand its identification details and use your account to check its balance, transactions and supported uses.

A successful lookup does not confirm that a subscription, advertising platform or digital wallet will accept the card. See the card guide for practical payment steps and the Help Centre for support.

BIN checker frequently asked questions

What is a BIN checker?

A BIN checker looks up the first six or eight digits of a payment card number. It can identify the card network, issuing institution, issuing country and card type without needing the full card number.

Does a BIN match mean a payment will be approved?

No. A BIN describes a card range, not the outcome of a purchase. Available funds, card status, merchant rules and payment authentication can affect whether a transaction succeeds.
